Homeless, Addicted Women Getting a Home
The Healing Place of Wake County announced today that the Women and Children’s facility will now open on January 15, 2006.
Earlier this fall, The Healing Place announced the postponement of the opening of the new facility for women and children until Spring of 2006. The opening was delayed due to a drop in campaign funding, primarily resulting from two significant gifts that did not materialize, and further as a result of Hurricane Katrina after which many small donors temporarily redirected their giving.
The response to our delay announcement was immediate and gratifying. Led by the generosity of Matthew and Kyle Szulik of Raleigh who provided a major donation in honor of Mrs. Mary Ann (Claude) McKinney her mother, dozens of Healing Place supporters responded. When informing us of his gift the Szuliks said they wanted to ensure that homeless, addicted women would be able to access The Healing Place’s recovery program as soon as possible, especially with the advent of severe winter weather.
January 15 also marks the 5th anniversary of the opening of the men’s facility. Through year five the men’s Healing Place has helped give back the life they had lost to more than 70% of its clients. With the opening of the new women’s facility, The Healing Place will now serve women, children and men who find themselves members of the homeless addicted population of Wake County.
