THE HEALING PLACE HONORS LARRY ZIEVERINK

The Healing Place of Wake County has named its administration building for long-term ABC Board Chairman Larry Zieverink, Sr.  The action was taken by The Healing Place Board of Directors at its March meeting.

The Larry Zieverink Administration Building is part of a three-building complex on Raleigh's Goode Street that houses The Healing Place of Wake County, a recovery facility for homeless alcoholic and addicted men.

Zieverink, in addition to his work with the Wake County ABC Board, is a former Wake County Commissioner, and has been a member of the Wake County Human Services Board since 1996.  He was recently appointed an honorary lifetime member of the Human Services Board.

The Larry B. Zieverink Alcoholic Treatment Center, operated by Wake County, is also named in his honor.  Zieverink is a founder of The Men's Christian Fellowship Home, a half-way house for recovering men.

In introducing the motion to name the building for Zieverink, Fred Barber, founding chairman of The Healing Place Board, praised Zieverink for “the compassion and leadership he has exhibited for many years on behalf of addicts and alcoholics in Wake County".

“Larry Zieverink is the model for citizen participation,” said Barbara Goodmon, founding Vice Chair of The Healing Place, and former chair of the Wake County Human Services  Board.  “It was an honor to have followed his lead.”

A prototype of the brass plaque which will be installed in the front of the administration building was presented to Zieverink on Wednesday at the regular board meeting of the Wake County Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The Healing Place of Wake County, a 501(c)(3) non-profit supported by public and private funding,  provides a social (non-medical) detoxification center, a homeless shelter, and a recovery program for 180 men.  A fund-raising campaign is underway to build a similar facility for homeless and addicted women.
