The Healing
Place Names New Client Transition Monitor
Betsy
Johnson brings a passion for helping others to the nonprofit
August 23, 2007
Raleigh NC. The Healing Place of Wake County, an innovative shelter,
recovery and rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol
and drug addictions, has named Betsy Johnson as the new Client
Transition Monitor. In this role, Betsy will work with clients to secure
employment, housing and manage their finances as they continue their
path to be sober, contributing members of society.
Ms. Johnson, a
native of Johnson County and a Raleigh resident for the last three
years, has a true passion for the work she will begin. In discussing her
new role, Ms. Johnson said she “enjoys helping others in recovery
because I can help them see that there is bright future beyond their
addition. I am living proof of that.”
Before accepting
this new role, Ms. Johnson previously worked in the Men’s and Women’s
Shelter and Detox Centers at The Healing Place.
The Healing
Place is dedicated to reducing homelessness and the devastating impacts
of addiction. The current number of homeless people in Wake County is
estimated to be approximately 1200 and on any given night over 200 of
those individuals are sheltered and active in the Healing Place’s
recovery program. The recovery and rehabilitation program is focused on
“Helping People Find Their Way Back” from homelessness and addiction to
becoming contributing members of society. This journey to recovery is
based on a peer-run, 12-step-based program that has demonstrated a
success rate of approximately 70 percent for the clients.
About The
Healing Place of Wake County
The Healing
Place of Wake County is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) recovery and
rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol and drug
dependency. The Men’s Center opened its doors in 2001, and the Women’s
Center began operation in early 2006. As of January 2007, over 6200 men
and women have been provided with more than 360,000 beds of shelter. The
nonprofit has also provided thousands of recovery classes and meetings.
The Healing Place offers a shelter, a detox center and a recovery
program all at a cost of less than $30 per day for each resident.
Approximately 70% of the graduates from our program, with a year of
post-discharge sobriety, are still sober. The Healing Place of Wake
County is built on the principles of the highly successful “Healing
Place in Louisville, KY,” which received the 1998 US Department of
Health Resources and Service Administration “Models That Work Award” in
recognition of the success of the program. Visit us on the web at
