Community Provides Special Support to Women
Practically changing one’s life is never easy, and if you are a young mother trying to find a safe place to sleep and dealing with addiction, the odds are stacked against you. Thankfully, we live in a community that reaches out to help these women.
“Obtaining financial support to operate the women’s facility is the first fund raising priority,” said Bonnie Gaylord, Board Member, “but support that goes beyond money allows women to picture a new life. This new life includes family relationships, friends, personal responsibility and sobriety.” During the holiday season, The Healing Place often receives support from groups, civic organizations and individual citizens. During the past holiday season, we saw new faces and friends bringing love and laughter to the women’s facility.
Last year, several organizations helped make the holiday season unique for the women. For example: The North Carolina State women’s basketball team provided a unique buzz as these young women visited the women’s facility for the annual Christmas party and distributed gifts to the children in attendance. Special appreciation goes out to Coach Kelli and the entire women’s Wolfpack team.
We also would like to thank the following groups: - Unity Church of Raleigh - John J. Kirlin, LLC. - Umstead Park, UCC - North Carolina New Schools Project - Pilot Club of Raleigh St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cary- Cornel West Program (Boy’s Club)- State Employees’ Credit Union
Many organizations and individuals reach out during the holiday season, but the community does not ignore the residents at the women’s facility throughout the year. Thank you to those who continually volunteer throughout the year:- Covenant Church International Ladies Bible Study RWHRMA - Swoop- The Women’s Club - Chef Works
Would you or your group like to support the women beyond writing a check? Please call (919) 838-9800 and ask for Lisa Rousseau or anyone in our volunteer support group.
